Hey everyone, today I’m sat writing this post on the day you will see it, it’s a Saturday afternoon, I’ve just spent the day shooting images for my blog and Instagram. Saturdays are days I usually bulk shoot as I have university during the week, so a few hours on a Saturday I reserve for getting creative with styling my outfits, however with that being said, I do find my self endlessly scrolling through ZARA, I tell myself only 5 minutes and before you know its been 2 hours, some could say that’s a bad habit but I’m going to class it more as a hobby, or research seen as I am pursuing a career in fashion, whatever excuse which makes me feel better about scrolling through my phone for 2+ hours.
I have been realizing I’m spending a lot of time looking at a screen recently, a few months ago I went to the opticians for a routine check, and the optician asked how many hours I spend looking at a screen, in my head, I’m thinking my answer is going to be extremely embarrassing, I was rounding up all the activities I participate in during the day in my head, that revolved around looking at a screen. I was thinking ok, so I wake up look at my phone, I spend hours staring at my laptop due to online university, oh and I couldn’t forget all the hours I spend rotting my brain from getting lost in a sea of Instagram reels and memes. I replied to the optician well…a lot, he suggested 6-8 hours (which made me giggle a little) he definitely was not going to be pleased with my next response, which was, “no much more than that for sure”. At least I had the excuse because of the online university and being in the middle of a pandemic. By the end, if you are wondering if my eyesight had gotten any worse, then yes it had only by a little.
At the moment, I think I can say I’m not the only one wasting time by scrolling through my phone, considering there is not much to do at the moment, and I think it’s going to be like that for a while longer. However, I can help myself out, and not spend time looking at my phone when I don’t need to like before going to bed, I’ve been wanting to break that habit for a while now, and have yet to succeed. if I were to mention some upsides to spending so much time using technology, it would definitely be a feeling a sense of connection, as we are not able to see anyone right now, social media and facetime allow us to fulfill a small part of that need for connection. We are very lucky to still be able to speak to people so easily, even when they are miles away, imagine how this past year would have been if we didn’t have phones or tablets.
I am finding solace, in being able to facetime, chatting to people over social media, and writing these blog posts, although I’m not directly talking to someone and not receiving an immediate response, I find it comfortable and fun to write down all my thoughts and just let them flow as I type, it has definitely helped me over the past year. When I come to write these posts I never know what I’m going to type and discuss, but once I start off with one simple sentence, I begin to naturally type, and before you know it the post is over.
Now on to today’s outfit, I decided to do stripes on stripes and make them clash, I have layered a blue and white striped shirt with a striped knit vest, I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that vests and shirts layered are on trend at the moment a quick glance on Instagram does all the telling. I thought id put my own twist on the trend by clashing colours and prints and pairing them with gold statement earrings. I have to say I’m in love with this look. if I were to wear it out, I would pair it with my beige trench coat as it is very cold here in the UK, but seeing as there is nowhere to go, no coat is needed.
Now as the post is coming to a close, I wish everyone well and enjoy the rest of your weekend, Thankyou.
